Anyone want to buy a skipping rope?
Well I read on here that skipping was a good way to lose weight so off I went and bought one. Well now picture a 66 year old, so overweight I look 9 months pregnant, trying to skip in 30degrees. Now I have to search for an easier way to get rid of the excess!
I have been quit for 2 Years, 2 Months, 3 Weeks, 1 Day, 12 hours, 26 minutes and 18 seconds (813 days). I have saved $8,785.99 by not smoking 14,643 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Month, 2 Weeks, 6 Days, 20 hours and 15 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 8/11/2009 10:00 p.m.
I am sure if I get my mind set I will succeed in getting rid of the weight, I managed to get my mind set to quit smoking after 50 years. I got lots of tips from this blog site and Quit line on stopping smoking so I will keep looking for tips on losing weight but I guess the skipping rope is not for me. 3 turns of the rope had me sweating like a %* and my heart pounding and my shorts are still too tight!!!!
Stick with your quit everyone, lots of laughter and tears and lots of new friends to be had on here. We can do it ODAAT.
800 days
Happy New Year to all you quitters. I have not been blogging for a while but I do pop in most days to see how the Quit family are going.
I have been quit for 2 Years, 2 Months, 1 Week, 2 Days, 57 minutes and 13 seconds (800 days). I have saved $8,640.42 by not smoking 14,400 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Month, 2 Weeks and 6 Days of my life. My Quit Date: 8/11/2009 10:00 p.m.
I have still not managed to sort out the weight thing but Christmas and the cake and mince pies and the bucket of Cookie Time took preference over diet!
I must say that the cravings have gone now, just an odd thought of the old days but certainly don't ever want to go back there.
Thank you Quitline and quit family, all your help and advice helped me to 800 days.
Still lurking and reading the blogs!
I have been quit for 1 Year, 11 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days, 18 hours, 29 minutes and 53 seconds (723 days). I have saved $7,816.71 by not smoking 13,027 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Month, 2 Weeks, 1 Day, 5 hours and 35 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 8/11/2009 10:00 p.m.
My how time flies and its lovely to see the oldies blogging and also so many new family members.
Had to giggle when I signed in and they asked if I had a smoke in the last two weeks, hey Quitline you should have said last two years. Not a single cigarette has touched my lips but I admit to sometimes breathing in someone elses smoke, ahhh, yes it sometimes still smells good!
Not managed to really tackle the weight thing. The willpower for resisting the TimTams got up and went along with the ciggies.
The best thing is my new car and it still smells NEW.
Well if I can kick a 50 year habit I am sure you young ones can do it with all the help from Quitline and everyone in this Quit family.
666 Days
I have been quit for 1 Year, 9 Months, 3 Weeks, 6 Days, 17 hours, 16 minutes and 46 seconds (666 days). I have saved $7,200.57 by not smoking 12,000 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Month, 1 Week, 4 Days and 16 hours of my life. My Quit Date: 8/11/2009 10:00 p.m.
I thought the stats looked pretty good today. I just can't imagine what 12,000 butts would look like in a giant ashtray.
666 days without a single puff but don't ask how many times I have come SO close!!! I think I have stood next to smokers quite a few times to try and get my fix but then I realize I have come too far to go back.
Oh and then the money. Wow, I have just got my first ever brand new car and I can smell its new. Spent some of the kids inheritance on top of my Quit savings.
I still have to get out and walk each day as I don't yet seem able to beat my food addiction. I managed to lose a bit for a month or so but then lost the willpower (maybe I used up all my willpower on quitting smoking!)
Great to see some of the long term quitters popping in. I wonder if they sneak in every day like me. I think I do it to keep myself from slipping off the mountain top. I know I am still only one puff away from falling.
Well Spring is here so lets all have another smokefree day.
Walking the tightrope
Quitting is like walking a tightrope. We start off with little steps and have some wobbles then we gain in confidence as we head for the middle of the rope. Then suddenly we are on the uphill again and the nicodemon arrives to try and push us off.
Like Shane36 I watched "dying for a smoke" and it had the same effect on me, I wanted one so bad.
I have been quit for 1 Year, 7 Months, 4 Weeks, 1 Day, 10 hours, 39 minutes and 19 seconds (606 days). I have saved $6,549.59 by not smoking 10,915 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Month, 1 Week, 21 hours and 35 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 8/11/2009 10:00 p.m.
I just hope I can keep my balance and resist the demon and that is why I still come here to gain strength.
All you young ones quit now before the nicodemon gets a tight hold. After 50 years of feeding the nicodemon he is not giving up without a fight!
Hi Minty Fresh
Wow I was just catching up on reading the blogs when this old pommy mate jumped out! How are you doing, found that man yet????
I have been quit for 1 Year, 7 Months, 2 Days, 10 hours, 27 minutes and 34 seconds (579 days). I have saved $6,257.90 by not smoking 10,429 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Month, 6 Days, 5 hours and 5 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 8/11/2009 10:00 p.m.
Been trying to quit the sugardemon for 5 weeks and have lost 3kg. Its nearly as hard as beating the nicodemon but as our old mate Mister Mister says ODAAT.
Catch you later XXX
Shane36
Happy Breathday to you. Welcome to the top of the mountain. You have succeeded in beating the nicodemon and the weight gain! Congratulations and please pop in now and then to inspire all the others.
Clarence the cat
Wishing you all the best on your OE, as everyone says we will miss you. I wish I was coming with you. Remember you can use the internet for free in libraries in the UK so if you get the chance say hi to us all. XXX
If it aint broke why fix it?
Hey Quitline, why do you keep changing the website? This is the 3rd since I quit and to be honest I liked the first one best. Us oldies are set in our ways and don't really like change! The huge change of becoming smokefree was enough for me.
Oh well I have had my say. I guess as long as we have this site that's the main thing.
555 days
I have been quit for 1 Year, 6 Months, 1 Week, 2 Days, 20 hours, 11 minutes and 22 seconds (555 days). I have saved $6,003.08 by not smoking 10,005 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Month, 4 Days, 17 hours and 45 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 8/11/2009 10:00 p.m.
Not sure which figure is best 555 days, $6000 or 10,000 cigs. Wow that would be one huge ashtray to hold all those buts.
At the start of my quit I don't think I really believed I could get this far but you can with all the help from here and a lot of determination. Lots of laughs and lots of tears along the way but this fantastic Quit family help you all the way.
Happy Breathday 1Lynn1
Hope you are having fun on the mountain top, up above all the rain!!! Congratulations XXX
18 months
I have been quit for 1 Year, 6 Months, 1 minute and 59 seconds (546 days). I have saved $5,896.80 by not smoking 9,828 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Month, 4 Days and 3 hours of my life. My Quit Date: 8/11/2009 10:00 p.m.
I went for a check up on Friday. BP was up a bit but when I stepped on the scales we knew why!!! I have never weighed this much in my life SO I have started my QUIT of all biscuits, lollies and puddings and will walk to work. My goal is 2kg in the next 4 weeks but hopefully it won't take 18 months to get rid of all I have gained.
I am now suffering sugar cravings but I have learned to use the 4D's and I have succeeded against the nicodemon so I will win against the sugardemon!
Hey, hey its May. PAAAAAARTY month!!!!
Wow, Maggies 2nd Breathday and Kiwimarie1, 1Lyn, Riggster and Dentarthurdent all celebrating their Breathdays. I will celebrate 1 1/2 years in three days time and then my Birthday.
What a journey its been and all the help and support from here has helped me stay smokefree. Still have the odd moment of thinking Ahhh a smoke would be nice BUT no way am I going back to day one. After 50 years of smoking I guess I will always get those moments. I am still trying to get motivated to do something about my ever increasing waist, maybe I should set a quit date for biscuits (chocolate of course) apple crumble and ice-cream!
I still read the blogs most days and read how the Quit family are doing. Remember you are not doing this alone and come on here to share your journey.
500 days
I have been quit for 1 Year, 4 Months, 2 Weeks, 1 Day, 16 minutes and 26 seconds (500 days). I have saved $5,400.12 by not smoking 9,000 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Month, 1 Day and 6 hours of my life. My Quit Date: 8/11/2009 10:00 p.m.
When I posted my first blog I didn't really believe I would ever reach 500 days. I remember feeling proud of reaching 50 days - one day for each year I smoked. 9000 cigarette buts, imagine how many stinky overflowing ashtrays! $5,400 not wasted and ???kilos gained but I am fit and healthy, just a little rounder!
Keep reading the blogs, there is so much support on here and also from Quitline.
Off I go again!
No, not smoking haha! Off on another trip in the campervan. No phone, no internet and no shops so no temptations!
Stay strong everyone and have a great weekend.
One day at a time.
Hi everyone.
So many new folk here and so many winning this battle.
I have been quit for 1 Year, 3 Months, 1 Week, 49 minutes and 56 seconds (464 days). I have saved $5,011.56 by not smoking 8,352 cigarettes. I have saved 4 Weeks and 1 Day of my life. My Quit Date: 8/11/2009 10:00 p.m.
Wow $5,000 not wasted on cigarettes. I stood gazing at the cigarette display in the dairy yesterday and couldn't believe how expensive they are now.
My money has gone on a new laptop and new clothes for my new body (shhhh I did not say bigger body!)
I still come on here to read the blogs, they have been a huge help in my quit.
The quitting really does get easier as time passes. The craves fade and only memories remain.

Hi Kathy, I am following your journey. Been away in our camper but read all the blogs at every chance. You are doing so well and as before you are giving so much help and support to other members. You will win this time. XXX
I'm back and still smokefree!
Our trip was nearly 3000km and the cricket was rained off but still had a great time. Had several moments of wishing I still smoked! I think they come more when I am away from this site, I guess thats because I still gain strength from here to continue the smokefree journey.
I have been quit for 1 Year, 2 Months, 3 Weeks, 4 Days, 22 minutes and 18 seconds (452 days). I have saved $4,881.76 by not smoking 8,136 cigarettes. I have saved 4 Weeks and 6 hours of my life. My Quit Date: 8/11/2009 10:00 p.m. (and I smoked for 50 years)
It has taken me ages to catch up on all the blogs, our Quit family is getting bigger each day and we are all striving to reach the same goal. Congratulations to you all.
Off on my travels again.
We take off tomorrow for our trip round the South Island and the cricket in Queenstown. We used to have to stop every hour or so for a ciggie break, now we stop to take in the fantastic views and the clean air.

Thanks for the humour Justjag. I wish there was an easy way to make the weight fall off too. Short of sewing my lips together, there seems to be little else I can do. Tried the skipping, but I just dont have the puff for it!!
On the plus side, we are still here complaining about the weight, but totally SMOKEFREE and much healthier than before so it can't be all bad. Have a great day!!
Hahahaha what a laugh Jag, hehehe.
That put a smile on my dial, thanx.
Hey try look up body trim or something, google it, cos Butterflykisses is onto that, says they have a blog site too & it's working really really well for her, so maybe check that out.
Nek minute... blog-a-holic, LoL
Hi Irene, I tried walking but it just makes me hungrier! I guess like clarence says maybe have to sew the lips together, hadn't thought of that one! Hey yes we are still SMOKEFREE and smiling> XXX
Awsome, knowing the time and dates etc to the minute!
I lost about 1kg over chrismas break and it was just through walking the block with the dog.
Instead of driving 1km to the shop for the milk - walk.
Thank you for your post
always great to hear how well someone has done and how long they have been smokefree. All I can suggest is walking and when you get hungry drinking water first and then if still hungry go for a fruit or veggie while your body adjusts ....I lost a lot of weight taking it slowing and doing it that way....good luck
Gorgeous Just Jag!!! I’m sure you’ve made lots of us smile today ☺
You want to do lots of cardio for weight loss, unfortunately (in my opinion) it’s not much fun nor is it easy. But have you thought about aqua aerobics? It’s low impact cardio and great fun! Think outside the typical exercise square and try to find something engaging and fun : ) Rock climbing? Dancing classes? Zumba DVD?
Good luck! Look forward to your next blog!
Oh Just jag you are a laugh alright skipping rope blow that for a joke im inclined to agree with you about stiching the lips shut god knows ive tried to drop the weight but doesnt want to budge
