One Year
Hi Everyone
I'm really stunned and totally amazed that I celebrated my first year smokefree yesterday. NO sneaky puffs in that time either!! Was actually a double celebration as I quit smoking on my birthday last year.
Breaking the smoking habit after 40+ years has been really difficult and has certainly had its moments. For me personally, I know that I have to stay quit. There is no way I'm going though this again. I still have to be on guard against the nicodemon but not in the same way as the early days.
Been quite alot of us celebrating milestones recently and still more happening shortly. So to all the newbies, hang in there, it can be done.
This time next year it will be you smokefree.
Thanks everyone for sharing your journey and the helpful advise and great laughs over the past 12 months. Congratulations and hugs to everyone on their journey.
I have been quit for 1 Year, 13 hours, 49 minutes and 12 seconds (365 days). I have saved $2,010.66 by not smoking 3,655 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Week, 5 Days, 16 hours and 35 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 15/05/2010 7:35 p.m.
317 DAYS
TOTALLY UNREAL!!!!!!
How have I got this far??? When the days started adding up I became determined not to start smoking again. There is NO way I will be going back to day one again. Actually I'm so tight that I wouldn't waste my money on smokes now.
I've been quit for 10 Months, 1 Week, 6 Days, 14 hours, 49 minutes and 36 seconds (317 days). I have saved $1,746.89 by not smoking 3,176 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Week, 4 Days and 40 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 15/05/2010 7:35 p.m.
260 Days
Hi Guys
Wow - our quit family has increased in size since the New Year. I've been checking out the blogs regularly since May 2010 and have never seen so many newbies. Also some buddies returning to complete their journey. Best of luck to you all. ODAAT
I have been quit for 8 Months, 2 Weeks, 1 Day, 20 hours, 59 minutes and 9 seconds (260 days). I have saved $1,434.80 by not smoking 2,608 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Week, 2 Days, 1 hour and 20 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 15/05/2010 7:35 p.m.
Happy New Year
Wow so many newbies to welcome to our quitline family - and a big welcome to you all. Hope you all reach your goal.
I had been smoking for well over 40years and hopefully have managed to beat the demon now. The hardest part for me has been the habit & still have the nicodemon try and remind me occassionally. Now in the news I hear that smokes are going up 10% and am very pleased I don't have to part with the money.
I have been quit for 7 Months, 2 Weeks, 3 Days, 12 hours, 12 minutes and 10 seconds (231 days). I have saved $1,273.29 by not smoking 2,315 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Week, 1 Day and 55 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 15/05/2010 7:35
A Happy & smokefree New Year to us all☺☺☺
4 D's
And not a single puff in 186 days.
Has been a real struggle to get this far and have to admit that I'm surprised to have reached this point. That is plesantly surprised. Alot of newbies recently - and a welcome to you all. Doesn't seem that long ago that I was one of the newbies and here I am 186 days later and somehow survived. Please remember to use the 4 D's in the early days as you will really rely on these techniques over the up coming months. The most important one for me has been DELAY.
Drink water
Deep breathing
Do something else
DELAY - DELAY - DELAY
I notice that I've saved over $1000 on smokes. Now I can tell you I have saved considerably more. The money has been saved by not getting the extras while getting smokes. Lollies (for grandkids of course) lotto tickets, bottle wine, magazine etc and of course the extra petrol to make the trip for the smokes.☺
I have been quit for 6 Months, 2 Days, 15 hours, 37 minutes and 53 seconds (186 days). I have saved $1,026.57 by not smoking 1,866 cigarettes. I have saved 6 Days, 11 hours and 30 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 15/05/2010 7:35 p.m.
150 Days - Did it
Well i finally did it!!!!
I've had an emergency supply of five ciggies in the glove compartment in the car and yesterday I finally got rid of them. These ciggies have been there since the day I gave up and I haven't had a single one. There has been a weird sense of security knowing they were there but also knowing it was a 'no go zone'. Must be winning!!!! Although I do admit to a few visits to the glove compartment to have a whiff - not to light up, just smell. Still love the smell of a burning ciggie, which is a worry and really keeps me on guard the whole time.
Congratulations to Steve76 & Pukeko on reaching their 100 day milestone yesterday. Really well done to you both.
Also Mandykoo on reaching 150 days.
Day 130
For some weird reason tonight has been really difficult for me and the urge to head off to the shops to buy smokes unreal. Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary has happened to trigger this stupid craving and I'm finding it so hard to understand.
I have spent the last hour reading blogs with a lollipop and cup of hot chocy and that has certainly helped to take the edge off. Even learnt that at Day 130, I haven't smoked 1300 fags and saved over $700. Which is real good news as I've just spent some money on the house and it will take 5 years of non-smoking to cover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pleased to add that we live in a rural area and I haven't made that trip to town.
Good night and catch you in the morning
Today's news
Internet news this morning:
Since the tax rises average weekly sales of cigarettes at supermarkets have gone down nearly 14% - more than the 10% increase.
Sales of roll-your-own tobacco have dropped by nearly 18% - less than the price increase of 21%.
Another increase of 10% is planned for 2011 and a further 10% in 2012.
AND WE ARE ALL PART OF THOSE FIGURES.

Belated congratulations on your 100 day anniversary and so very well done. Certainly good to reach these milestones which felt so farrrrrr away at the beginning.
Now the guard stays up and we reach for 150 days.
100
WOW 1-0-0 days for me today. WOW great feeling.
Congratulations Mandy on your 100 day milestone. Got a bottle of wine and had a glass for you.
Well done to Pukeko & Steve76 on your 50 days.
Mandykoo
Just had a recount and it will be Monday when we reach the 100 mark. Think some very serious celebrations are in order and should start on the Sunday though!!!!!!!!!!! Getting real close now. Roll on Monday. Lyn
Day 96
Been having a cruise round the new quitline site and looks very interesting and will hopefully work really well for all in the family.
I'm getting mighty excited about reaching the 100 day mark now and really looking forward to that milestone. I would read other bloggers stories that had quit around the same time as me and they seemed to be surviving the quitting better than me. During the last couple of weeks the cravings have not been nearly as bad and have been controllable for me, so hoping I have turned the corner and cravings easier from here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE PLEASE
Lyn
Day 84
84 Days = 12 Weeks
Still hanging in there. Today is day 84 without a single puff and now really looking forward to hitting the 100 day milestone. I'm still counting in days and not weeks although certainly getting easier.
Still getting those crazy cravings although a little more manageable lately. Thank goodness.
Lyn
Mandykoo
Hiya. Sorry to hear your having a tough time at present Mandy. Just remember tomorrow will be our 63 day without ciggies and that we have come so far from the beginning and have some exciting celebrations ahead.
I received a great piece of advice about a week ago from a certain blogger???????????? which has helped me heaps during the last week. I'll share it with you and it goes like this:
FAKE IT UNTIL YOU MAKE IT.......FAKE IT UNTIL YOU MAKE IT..................FAKE IT UNTIL YOU MAKE IT...........FAKE IT UNTIL YOU MAKE IT.....
It's great advice and has helped heaps. You might like to try this wonderful advice. Hahahahaha
Your right when you say it doesn't make sense. Now with 62 days of hard yards behind us, we have to make the most of what we have achieved and be strong and win this bloody evil battle.
Have a great smokefree weekend everyone and catch you next week.
Lyn
FAKE IT UNTIL YOU MAKE IT
Mandykoo
Hi
Well today is our 55th day in the smokefree world and tomorrow 56 days or 8 weeks. WOW Yes my last smoke was Saturday 15 May at 7.30pm which was also my birthday.
Can't say I've appreciated my own pressie at times!!!!!!!!!!
Have to admit I'm still counting in days and sometimes even part days. I think it might be somewhile before I'm ready to count in weeks or months but I will eventually manage and get there. Going to take awhile to break a 40 year habit.
Lyn
Day 53
Now 53 days smokefree. I had a good dose of the flu about 15-16 days ago and didn't use patches while sick so when I recovered decided to try to continue without the patches. Everything seems about the same without them and finally not any of that horrid nicotine in my system.
Or am I doing OK!!!!
Yesterday I did the usual supermarket shopping and going though the checkout the girl asks "anything else" and I heard myself say. "Oh yes, packet of Pall Mall Mild please"
Where the hell did that come from. Absolutely gobsmacked to hear myself say that. After years of the habit, it is just so hard to break. Pleased to say I didn't buy the packet of ciggies. The young checkout girl was looking at me very oddly as I'm telling her "I AM A NON SMOKER" Just goes to show that the 'old habit' is still lurking about and we have to be so careful.

41 Days
WOW - Now 41 days totally smoke free. Really pleased I've got this far & now extra determined to beat this stupid addiction. At times the last 41 days have been so difficult that I will not be quitting again. So I have to beat the addiction this time and be the WINNER.
So good to be able to read your blogs and know others are going though the same highs & lows.
Lyn
Day 12
Now at Day 12 and still no smokes. Feeling really positive today after some good news yesterday.
I have a story that I would like to share with you. Yesterday I had an appointment with the doctor for usual blood pressure check. I decided not to tell him about quitting smoking until after my BP had been taken. My BP has caused concern and been controlled by medication for several years.
Well he took BP, started again, referred back to computer & started again. My arm was now feeling like a piece of spaghetti & doctor looking puzzled until I told him that I'd quit smoking.
Only 11 days (yesterday) without smokes and my BP has dropped amazingly. Certainly very good news. Doctor was most impressed.
Now during the rough patches I will have to remind myself of the POSITIVE effect being smokefree has on my BP, lungs, general health, bank balance and the list goes on & on.....
Lyn
Day 8
WOW Day 8 and still no smokes. Been really tough at times and have to remind myself of the positives of quitting.
I have been checking other blogs regularly and just knowing others are going though the same is so helpful. Been particularly interesting to see so many are having sleeping problems like me. I must have a reasonable night soon, as now totally knackered!!!! How long do the sleepless nights last?
Day three
Hi All. Didn't quite finish yesterday's message. After 40 years of smoking I have decided to quit. I have (HAD) never been a heavy smoker but certainly a long term habit.
It is now 3 days since my last ciggie and I'm doing ok. In fact I have surprised myself and family & friends. Keeping busy and very determined to beat the habit of a life time. I have been planning to quit for about a month now and actually had my last ciggie on my birthday. Was supposed to be the next day but ran out of cigs and decided not to buy another packet. I have heaps of stratagies in place for when the urge gets to much and so far haven't needed them. I dare say that time will come though!!!!
Other times I've gone cold turkey when quitting and end up with an unbelievable temper, much to my families surprise and amazement. I'm usually easy going and NEVER experience such wicked tempers. So now with the help of the patches & lozenges hopefully that will not happen. Thanks Quitline.
Good luck everyone.
Well Done 1Lyn1.!! I think that we "oldies" in every sense of the word, once we quit, know that we have to stay SMOKEFREE.
It is great to reap the benefits of being smokefree isn't it? Good Luck for your next SMOKEFREE year.
Forgot to wish you a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY too!!
Well done 1Lyn1!! You're an inspiration to us. I can't wait for my first Breathday. If I'm feeling this well now, only 4 weeks after quitting, imagine how fantastic it will be after a year!!??
Hi Lyn, Happy Breathday and Happy Birthday. Well done!
Happy breathday and happy birthday - double congrats!! hope you give yourself a special well deserved reward now.
Awesome stuff 1Lyn1. Fantastic effort on reaching your 1st year of many as a non smoker.
