Quit Blogs

Star in Quitline's new ads

Hi bloggers

We're looking for people who have quit smoking with the help of Quitline to take part in our new advertising campaign.

We're looking for all different kinds of people. Shooting will take place in early March in the Wellington region so it would be ideal (but not essential!) if you were living in the area.

To register your interest, please email Sarah Woods: sarahw@quit.org.nz
It would be very helpful if you could include some information about yourself and your quitting journey.

Many thanks!

symptoms

Hey all, i have been off the smokes for 33 days now. i have over the last four or five days been getting little nose bleeds. i have never had this before and wonder if anyone have the same symptoms. i am on champix. help..........................................

Smokefreedancer23 August, 2010

Definitely go to the doctors, and find out! Especially since you are taking Champix!

minty fresh23 August, 2010

Hi there Sikashooter - I've used the wonderful 'Google machine' to find a helpful answer to your question and alas I cannot find one single answer that everyone agrees with. Some people say that all quitters go through nose bleeds (well that's not true) others have said that Champix can raise your blood pressure which causes nose bleeds - I think the overwhelming suggestion is though, if in doubt pay your GP a visit, he/she will be able to take your blood pressure and put your mind at rest.

Good luck and well done on being smokefree for 33 days :o)

Serena23 August, 2010

I am on day 30 and have had two bleeding noses. Am on the patches. I think it's one of the symptoms, I hope anyway.....anyone else having blood noses??

Tiwi23 August, 2010

Yes, I got a few blood noses but that was due to me picking for Africa.
With my new sense of smell I wanted to rid my nostrils of some smells that stick to my bogees.
I notice them now.
Like what?
Like kaka ones, you know? Go'on you know.............k a k a!!

polhigg24 August, 2010

LOL ew tiwi GROSS :P

sikashooter24 August, 2010

Many thanks all. i will pay the GP a visit i think. i have broken my nose to many times aswell. probably not helping. Tiwi. interesting comment. i tell ya i can smell again and when some one farts it really stinks. makes me feel sick. LOL.

Lese3724 August, 2010

Funny you say that, I've had my 1st one this morning - I think I'm day 37. I'm not on anything any more.

I do recall reading something about, sinuses getting a good clean out at some point ... maybe that's the answer. I would be interested to see what the Dr says... Please let us know.

sikashooter24 August, 2010

i certanly will

sikashooter28 August, 2010

i went of the champix it raised blood pressure a little to much. now cold turky (no aids)

hey Lese37

I can completly understand where you are comming from. I was there myself a couple of weeks ago. I am on the champix and was blaming it for sleeping issues. I was going 24-36 hours without sleep then just crashing. what i can tell you is that it does get much better. i am hitting the four week mark in a couple of days and although there is the odd craving, very few and far between i believe it was worth the effort and heart ache at the start
Kia Kaha. be strong my friend you will get there.

hard night

i went to a friends 40th tonight at the RSA,
it was a chalange but i must say, i did not smoke. YAY

25 days smoke free
500 cigies not smoked
$312 saved.

I have one major motivating factor to quit. a mate and i am climbing mt kilamanjero. where there is half the air at the top of the mountian than at sea level.

i see youre all doing so well with your personal strugle. keep up the good work

31Jul2010 By sikashooter  |  Permalink  |  Report Support me

10 days, 200 ciggies and $125

it couldn't be better. i find the quit calculator the most motivating part of the day. had a couple of fleeting moments tonight were i almost thought about having a smoke. but i didn't that makes me happy.

anyway. good to see so many quitters on here successfully completing probably one of the hardest journeys in their lives and supporting one another. Keep up the good work.

Wow Champix Rocks.

Hi all.

I have been smoke free for six or seven days now. cant remember should be counting. I have tried to quit a few times this year i have used the following methods

-Patches with Mints
-Zyban
-Hypnotherapy
-acupressure.

Long story short none of the above worked for me. I experienced no positive effects from them. but on the other hand champix rocks. I used it last year quit for eight weeks and got to confident went of them and started smoking again. BAD MOVE. i have waited a whole year to get on them again using their cost as an excuse. but they work. no real cravings, no little voice telling me to buy smokes at the gas station, no stomach trouble. i have had trouble sleeping though. fixed this right up with Zopiclone (sleeping pills) and beer. good stuff.

My father tried it last year though and ended up in hospital they thought he was having a heart attack. alas it is not for all but if you are suffering greatly whilst quitting this will seriously take the edge of the cravings. is worth the fifty dollars a week. and it is not NRT (no nicotine) it has been shown to be far more effective than Bupropion (Zyban) but has documented side effects. some people but very few have suffered temporary psychosis and killed them selves on this not to good.

Congrats to all the quitters out there keep it up.
great to see there is such a friendly forum.
