Quit Blogs
Star in Quitline's new ads
Hi bloggers
We're looking for people who have quit smoking with the help of Quitline to take part in our new advertising campaign.
We're looking for all different kinds of people. Shooting will take place in early March in the Wellington region so it would be ideal (but not essential!) if you were living in the area.
To register your interest, please email Sarah Woods: sarahw@quit.org.nz
It would be very helpful if you could include some information about yourself and your quitting journey.
Many thanks!

And I am procrastinating about my study a lot more.
Assessments are due next week, and i'm feeling terribly un-motivated.
One of my tutors said i'd chosen a bad time to quit smoking, cuz its only gunna get harder.
*sigh*
There is no logical reason why smoking will make my grades better LOL

I think my partners mum has started again .... which sux cuz she was a couple of days ahead of me :( Spent my first day hanging out with my mate who smokes the other day. She didn't have one the whole time we hung out, which I thought was really good of her :) Now I just have to convince her to join me!

Stick with it Ceroca!!!! You don't want to go back and do this all over again another time do you? Your tutor was a bit off the mark there I'm afraid....there is no 'bad time' to quit smoking. Okay stress and pressures are usual times we used to reach for cigarettes, but they didn't 'help' the stress or the pressure. Smoking also doesn't help you concentrate or write a better essay. As you say smoking doesn't make you smarter!!
You may need to break your study up a bit and instead of sit there with a pile of books in front of you whilst feeling unmotivated - get up put your walking shoes on and go for a walk for half an hour - don't just wander aimlessly, plan your route and stride it out. Come back put the kettle on, make a cuppa and then decide that you'll do an hour or two at the books. Then stop and do something else for an hour...then get back into the books again. This way you'll be moving and increase your motivation to both study and stay smoke free.
Oh well, your partners Mum has thrown in the towel - she's made her choice for whatever reason - a bit silly of her but that's her thing. Your quit is about you, now it's time for you to show people that you can do things alone and won't buckle just because you don't have someone quitting with you. This is all about YOU...you're quitting for your reasons and YOU will benefit immensely by not smoking. I think you have a real friend there with your smoking buddy as she cared enough about you not to smoke in your presence.
Stay positive Ceroca - you're doing it!!! Onwards and upwards my friend ☺

Day 8
Maybe I shouldn't count Day 7 ......... had a slip up.
Ended up VERY emotional over a silly little thing, in front of a whole load of people. It tasted aweful, smelt aweful, but it still did the trick lol.
So maybe today is day 7 .............

Slip ups happen Ceroca - but the key is to learn from them and carry on where you left off. ☺

Day Five
minty fresh27 August, 2010
Don't you just hate being called NORMAL???? Well you are! Smoking masks most of the emotions we have and when we quit they can all come bubbling to the surface and become quite confusing.
Think about it....when we were smokers, we'd smoke if:-
we were happy, sad, celebrating, angry, pensive, grieving, confused, bored, concentrating etc etc etc That would generally be the first thing we'd reach for if we 'felt' a feeling. Now it's time to really begin to FEEL and deal with emotions and experiences for the first time. Very confusing at first and frustrating (which would have been another time we'd reach for a cigarette) - but push through this frustration and allow yourself to feel all of these emotions and it becomes a lot clearer. You really begin to know yourself and trust yourself and your judgments more than ever before.
Instead of seeing smokers with envy, see them with pity....these poor buggers are hooked (and don't want to be), they HAVE to have that fix of nicotine by way of smoke. They HAVE to inhale 4000 chemicals to keep them from panicking.......or they think they do.
Stick with it Ceroca, people who know and love you will accept your ups and downs. Keep on resisting and in another couple of days you'll be a week without smoking and you'll really start to FEEL proud of yourself and won't want to mark that occasion with a cigarette. We're proud of you now. Onwards and upwards Ceroca ☺

Well said minty fresh. Yeah I look at smokers now and think the same thing, all those toxins they are inhaling and how they have to have their fix, its good when we can look at them at think like that now. Thats what I say to all the smokers around me, they are letting smokes control their lives. People say that I am cured because I say that, but every day I fight the demon, I am now at day 20 and Ceroca it does start to get a lot easier. I found day 11 to be my hardest, but when you have even done one day you have done well, give yourself a reward!!!Just think how much healthier we are going to be for our family and friends. Be proud of yourself for reaching day 5!!!

Day Two - Part Two
I'm making sure my days are full of things to keep me busy.
Man, gym felt good today. I felt like I could do more, breathing was easier, makes quite a difference.
To be honest today was quite a good day.
Had a good cry watching Home Makeover programme.
A reminder that I am blessed and shouldn't abude that blessing.
Bring on Day Three!
Dentarthurdent23 August, 2010
I was amazed too about how quickly I got some benefit from quitting. Although the likelihood of finding me in a gym is pretty slim, even walking to the shops was easier.
Keep doing what you're doing, follow the 4D's, keep yourself busy and drink water, lots of water. It's tough at the start but gets easier and the benefits are greater. It's really nice when your sense of smell comes back fully and the taste buds too.

Day Two
I thought about it, but I stopped myself. I need a hobby.
mandykoo23 August, 2010
The hardest part in those early days is breaking away from old habits and routines and all the associations with smoking. It really sucks!
But as time goes by, your life realigns itself - it takes time but you will pick up new hobbies and fun things that replace smoking and eventually you will find yourself looking at smokers with some sympathy ... particularly when you see how much more money you've got - LOL
You can do it! Just keep coming in here for support. We all understand ...
Dreamz23 August, 2010
Its ok to feel sad we all did saying goodbye but then you start to feel happy about it and soo proud. You will be feeling sad for those smokers real soon!
