great day

So today is my 12th day without a smoke. I only just relised that when I quit smoking, I stopped biting my nails. I dont know why or how because I didnt plan it or even try. I thought that was pretty cool. I havnt felt like a smoke for a few days now which is good. Still get the bad moods and snap every now and again but finally my head doesnt feel cloudy and I can think properly. Im relieved bowt that lol. Im a bit worried about next week. Ive heard week 3 is difficult and I remember I caved on my last attempt at quitting on week 3. I thought I could just have the one. I know this time I cant at all. I really dont want to go back to smoking. All the money I spent on smokes every pay day is going into a savings to go on holiday next year. Im really looking forward to that. Everytime I crave one I think of that holiday lol.

Thats just great!! Stay strong. You don't want to take up smoking again so you wont. Keep focused on your SMOKEFREE goal and that holiday. You will achieve both. Great news that you have stopped biting your nails. Thats a plus. Dont worry about the future, just take each day as it comes. Good Luck!!

Hungry all the time

Why do I feel hungry all the time? Im kicking one habit but picking up another - I cant stop eating. I struggle with the weight as it is. Five years ago I was at my biggest and I hated it. Today I am at peace with it after loosing 30kgs just from working on a dairy farm. It probably wouldnt have taken so long if I ate properly. Im not very good with the whole healthy eating thing. Its not that I wouldnt do it, more that I wouldnt know where to start. I am prepard to put on some unwanted kgs but I dont want to go back to square one with my weight. Im not going to forget how hard it was to get rid of lol. Anyone have any tips on how to keep away from the yummy food all the time or should I worry about that later?

clarence the cat29 January, 2012

Hi Bellaroxy. If you feel you must eat, choose snacks such as celery or carrot sticks or fruit. Lettuce wraps is another clever trick. I think the hunger is caused by feeling you should be putting something up to your mouth as you did when smoking. Drink lots of water too, and keep the exercise regime up. Good Luck!!

Denize6729 January, 2012

Hi Bellaroxy, I hear what you're saying. If you click on my blogs you will see I am having the same issue. I got some really great tips of some of these other guys...some might help you too. Best wishes, D ;o))

Janathene29 January, 2012

Hi Bellaroxy big problem for me my weight is too high anyway. Im on day 76 and have put on 6kgs that I cant afford! Cant offer any help on this one because Im hopeless at it. But I have every sympathy with you. Would love to hear how you go on. Good Luck

Xenophon29 January, 2012

Same problem here hun! Try to keep up with the exercise if you can, as that will help to mitigate the effects somewhat. And do arm yourself with lots of nice healthy snacks if you can (I find a handful of almonds can be really satisfying). At the end of the day, do go easy on yourself too - if you gain a wee bit of weight while quitting, you can always work on that once you're further into you quit journey. Cos if you can quit smoking, you can do ANYTHING! :)

claire_mc29 January, 2012

seems we all ibn the same boat..Im on day 145 and Ive gained 16 kgs!!! LOL
but its statring to ease off a bit now,....Im noticing im not continuiously hungry.
I heard that everytime you had a ciggie it burned up to 300 calories...
good luck
and its easier to recover from weight gain than it is from smoke related illnesses

Jassie29 January, 2012

Me too - have made Mars Bar cupcakes today.

Donesmokin29 January, 2012

Hi Bellaroxy, if you are struggling with the whole how to prepare healthy food issue, just do what i do and get on the internet and search some healthy recipes. We have the same issues, so i make a salad every couple of days and just add different things to it for variation for lunches. Some days it's chicken salad, tuna salad or wraps. Hope this helps.....on the plus side when you aren't smoking, you have all this spare time to prepare things lol.

Day 9 today

Wow I cant believe it. Eight whole days without a smoke and I know thats not very many and it is early days but getting through that first week, what a mission. My sister and I are quitting together and a lot of the smokers we know had us failing before we even quit (which is not very nice or supportive). Non smokers and smokers who are ready to quit have been amazing and we have thanked them for supporting us. Anyways, getting to the point we relised who was getting behind us fully and thats all you guys. With all your amazing support and reading the blogs, its made it easier knowing we are not the only ones going down this rocky road. As soon as we get a craving at home we jump onto quitline and it works. Reading the blogs really does help! Im just taking time out to thank you all so much for your support and helping changing my life. I am only now starting to believe that I am a non smoker and it sounds so good saying it too. Once again THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

8 days smokefree is huge in quitting terms, so well done to both you and your sister.

Ady28 January, 2012

Congrats on 8 days quit, that 1st week is hard isn't it, but you 2 did it.
Thats the hardest week all done & it can only get better from here so keep pushing onwards, Yes the blogs do help Big time, there's a kind of magic in here, a positive force that helps, supports & encourage's us all to fight & break free from the nicotine addiction.
The idea of only Positive support here is to help, support & encourage ppl to succeed, & it helps if we all contribute with our own positive thoughts & comments, I think that the more ppl that contribute, the more powerful this site becomes.
You're doing well Bellarox, keep it up.
cheers

clarence the cat28 January, 2012

Well done!! Is it helpful the two of you on the SMOKEFREE trail together? Keep up the good work.

clematis28 January, 2012

The support on here is amazing isn't it, but then so are every one of us having the determination to carry on with our quits. Kia kaha. x

Xenophon28 January, 2012

Well done to you both, you're aleady over the worst bit (the dreaded first week!). Totally agree with all of the above comments. Keep coming here Bellaroxy; you're so right about what a huge help it is!
I love you comment Ady that there's a kind of magic in here; there really is. It totally makes me want to put together a Queen soundtrack for the quit blogs though: "It's A Kind Of Magic" followed by "We Are The Champions" with perhaps "Another One Bites The Dust" (for every time we bash the Nicodemon!)..... ;-)

Xenophon28 January, 2012

*your...can't type....

rainbowfish28 January, 2012

Hehe Xenophon, what about "I Want To Break Free" and "Let Me Live" as well as one just for the nicodemon "You Take My Breathe Away".

Xenophon28 January, 2012

Haha, love it rainbowfish! We could also add "Keep Youself Alive", "Don't Lose Your Head" and "Staying Power" :)

Day 6

Can anyone tell me how long until the body starts to go back to normal? Since day 1 of quitting I have had a headache and I cant shake it. It comes and goes all day everyday. The last 2 days I have been unpleasent to be around with my moods. It doesnt seem to take much for me to snap and I feel guilty after I do. I cant seem to get my brain to function clearly either. I forget things all the time. I'd describe it as feeling cloudy. It sounds weird I know. Is all of it normal? If so it must start coming right soon yeah? On the bright side, the cravings are getting less and less.I have not craved a smoke at all today so far. Its been a good day for that.

Jassie25 January, 2012

No exact time frame on these things but day 6 - you are doing great - almost your first week done. Think of all those yucky things as your body recovering from being poisoned and remember to call quitline for advice and stay here for support. You will get it. Good luck.

clarence the cat25 January, 2012

Everyone is different Bellaroxy, but what you are describing is usual during the first week. Your body is furiously adapting to its new smokefree state. The biggie of course is that the toxins from smoking are leaving your body. Drink lots of water to help this process. Keep up the good work, and chat to quitline if you are concerned about anything. Good Luck. ODAAT

Day 2

Day 1 was easier than I thought it would of been for me but today has been hard. I found myself craving a smoke on and off all day. My work mates all smoke so Im around it there. I find the smell of them horrible already but I thought it would be too early for that. Its annoying me that Im not liking the smell of it but Im still craving one. As much as I wanted one today, Im proud of myself that I didnt. Day 3 of being smokefree tomorrow. Bring it on :)

Cliffie21 January, 2012

Well done Bellaroxy. The first few days will be tough but it looks like you are in the right head space. Stay strong

yas0121 January, 2012

Great work you are doing so well. Kick day 3's butt!

Ady22 January, 2012

Well done on day 2 & welcome to the quit blogs Bella, Hang on tight for this 1st week as the ride can get rough, grab a water bottle & read lots of blogs, there's a lot of good info in here & it might answer any questions you've got.
Keep busy & change some routines a little if you find it hard, IE: instead of morning coffee & smoke, it's now something like,.. up, shower, real food & juice for brekky. That sort of thing.
Good luck.
cheers
