Quit Blogs

Star in Quitline's new ads

Hi bloggers

We're looking for people who have quit smoking with the help of Quitline to take part in our new advertising campaign.

We're looking for all different kinds of people. Shooting will take place in early March in the Wellington region so it would be ideal (but not essential!) if you were living in the area.

To register your interest, please email Sarah Woods: sarahw@quit.org.nz
It would be very helpful if you could include some information about yourself and your quitting journey.

Many thanks!

Tomorrow I quit!

Hi there everyone, I have proved that I cannot quit by myself, I am 24 and have been smoking for 8 years, I have tried to quit a couple of times and always seem to make it to the 3 week mark before I reach for a cigi thinking one will be OK, but its not! I', a nursing student and hate the fact I smoke. I am meant to promote health and well being yet I'm a smoker.. its wrong. Smoking is a huge stress factor in my life as I know how bad it is for my health and my appearance so I know how better off without them I would be. My Mother passed away from breast cancer last year, and she was a smoker. I have a huge risk of developing this disease myself and yet I still smoke. I have my days where I still grieve for my Mother and those seem to be the days I take comfort in smoking. I would love some support from real people who know what this addiction is like, and I would love to offer my support to you.
Thank you
Hollie

Hi there Hollie - well done on making two really good choices, firstly setting a quit date and secondly jumping onboard the quitters wagon with the rest of us bloggers! lol It's great that you're really investigating your personal smoking habits and looking at them for what they are. I used to work in the hospital and knew lots of nurses and docs who smoked, they didn't like what they were doing either and wanted to stop - some of them did before I left there and have since found out that most of them are now smokefree - the ones who are still smoking look REALLY old. You have so many incentives to quit Hollie - you're young and so the smoking damage probably isn't visible yet (i.e. smokers lines), you have a possible health risk with the link to breast cancer, you're working in the health field and you know that you're mother would be so pleased with you if she knew that you'd thrown the cigarettes away and given yourself a chance at living a full, real, honest, fun, adventurous life. You know what Hollie that is precisely what you will be doing.......in order to succeed you have to be determined to push yourself through the 'urges' and 'cravings' despite being tempted. You are not allowed to succumb to excuses and you have to remind yourself that you are doing the best thing for YOU. Let's see if with our help you can push through the first three weeks and beyond. With determination Hollie YOU CAN. Onwards and upwards and keep on blogging ☺

Go on the pill if you not on it already! Sounds outrageous? Last nite on the sunday doco the results of a 39yr study came in re the pill and it has shown it is a miracle pill against all forms of cancer...

This is the right place for you right now. There are lots of blogs to read and they are full of advice and inspiration.
Everyone has slightly different experiences when quitting so there is no strict right or wrong to this. You will get the advice you need here though as this place is that is full of people who know exactly what you are about to go through.
Great stuff on making that first tough decision which is to quit.

Hollie welcome. sorry about your Mom, I know the greif you are going threw, I lost my Wife of 54 years four years ago to cancer and two years ago my Daughterinlaw at age 45 to brain cancer and left two teen age girls and after that I decided to quit tobaccco for good and I did and havent looked back. you can do it, just remember this is like a Alcaholic you cant have just one it don't work that way there is that little part in your brain that has been getting it's pleasure from your smoking and it will do any thing to get you to feed it with its happy fix.It is no differant then herion, I had two habits smoking and chewing tobacco and belive me when I say cigarettes were easy to quit compaired to quiting the chew it goes right to your brain , not that I think you would like to start chewing, :-) this is for any one that reads this and thinks chew , dip, spit tobacco what every you want to call it, is not a good sub. for smoking this is a very good group, we didn't have a group like this in the States when I quit sure could have used it so we all know what you are going threw and will help you over come.
