Quit Blogs

Star in Quitline's new ads

Hi bloggers

We're looking for people who have quit smoking with the help of Quitline to take part in our new advertising campaign.

We're looking for all different kinds of people. Shooting will take place in early March in the Wellington region so it would be ideal (but not essential!) if you were living in the area.

To register your interest, please email Sarah Woods: sarahw@quit.org.nz
It would be very helpful if you could include some information about yourself and your quitting journey.

Many thanks!

Shhhh! I've cracked a ton!

4,000 cigarettes not smoked.
$2,237.80 not wasted on smokes.
Oh Yeah, and 100 days smokefree.
I'm not going to lie and say getting this far has been easy or anything because it hasn't. What I can tell you is that the difference between day one and today is a world apart.
I breath so much easier now, no "Rattle" in my chest.
I don't wake up coughing and spluttering and then reach for a smoke to get me started.
I can smell flowers again, I haven't been able to do that for years and am experiencing Spring like I haven't done since I was 14.
I get to spend so much more time with my Granddaughters and don't have to go outside and smoke all the time.
I have more money to spend on things that I want, not that I need to feed my addiction.
That little packet doesn't dictate what time I have to leave to go out or whether I have to stop on the way in case my packet is going to run out.
I don't have to get to a function or whatever and then spend the first 30 minutes trying to find the other smokers so we can hook up and find the smoking area, rather than worry about being the only smoker there.
I can sit outside when the weather is nice to have my coffee because I CHOOSE to. I don't have to do that all the time or when the weather is awful because that's where us filthy smokers belong.
I could go on but quitting smoking has given me so much of my life back it's unreal. The funny thing is that it is parts that I didn't even realise I was missing out on.
How am I going to celebrate this? I'm not sure actually. My wife is taking me out for dinner and we will see what happens after that.
Like everything to do with this journey, I haven't done it entirely on my own. As ever, my Thanks and Love go out to you all for helping me through this. It may be a personal milestone for me but you all deserve some credit for it too, your blogs and support keep me going.

Hi Dentarthurden
Congratulations on reaching your century such an amazing feeling
You & I must be in the same age group as we started at a very young age now both have granddaughters who just love the fact that we spend more time with them instead of saying ''Just wait till I finish my smoke''
Also agree when you say when you go out to aocial function that you seek out the smokers corner of which now are few & far between even when you do you got the feeling other people weren,t happy having you around even if you were,nt in their space, can remember a few times like that, these days we have more friends who are non smokers than smokers also I have 2 friends who have respitory diseases that made me more aware of what I could end up like they no longer smoke for that reason
Anyway enjoy your meal out & whatever comes afterwards LOL!!!!!!! You so deserve a treat you have earned it
Keep on keeping on
Great milestone for you
