The Quit Group

Me mutu, hei oranga mo te whānau

The Quit Group is a charitable trust set up to run quit smoking programmes in New Zealand, including the national free telephone support Quitline. Our aim is to reduce the number of New Zealanders who smoke, with a particular focus on Māori smokers. We develop and provide innovative quit smoking programmes, television, radio, and print quit campaigns as well as evidence-based tobacco control facts and figures. The programmes are funded by the Ministry of Health.

Vision

Quit for life: contributing to a Smokefree Aotearoa/New Zealand 2020

Kaupapa/Mission

To be a national leader in smoking cessation for Aotearoa/New Zealand, with effective help available for people to successfully quit smoking.

Commitment

The Quit Group will demonstrate leadership in smoking cessation by:

  • Working to reduce smoking prevalence.
  • Addressing health inequalities and working towards addressing the needs of priority groups.
  • Achieving equitable outcomes for Māori.
  • Providing evidence-based cessation services.
  • Promoting supportive quitting environments.

Treaty of Waitangi Statement

The Treaty of Waitangi is New Zealand’s founding document and the Government is committed to fulfilling its obligations as a Treaty partner. The Quit Group desires to be acknowledged as an organisation that is responsive and supportive of Māori expectations and aspirations, and will ensure this commitment is entrenched in its own strategic planning and operations.
