Employers, workforce managers, health and wellness coordinators:
Did you know...
- Employees who smoke take around 3 x more sick leave than non smokers.
- A smoker taking four 10-minute breaks each day works a month less than a non smoker in the course of a year.
- Studies have estimated that smokers can cost employers more than $2,000 per annum.
The Quit Group can help you reduce smoking rates in your workforce, improve health and wellness and add measurable value to your bottom line.
What can you do?
- Let your staff know about the free support available to help them quit. Encourage them to call the Quitline (0800 778 778), order nicotine patches, gum or lozenges online, receive text message support via Txt2Quit or join the blog community.
- Talk to your staff about quitting smoking and give them some basic advice. For tips on doing this download our quick guide Be The Mate They Need.
- Promote the smokefree message in your workplace. Click here for ideas on how you can do this. You can also download posters to put up in your workplace.
- Order booklets, brochures and stickers to distribute around your workplace. You can order these for free from the Ministry of Health. The Quit Book is particularly valuable as it helps smokers make a plan to quit smoking and supports them through the steps.
- Ensure your smokefree policy is up to date. Click here to download a sample policy.
