If you want to talk to a Quit Advisor about quitting, call the Quitline on 0800 778 778. Check our opening hours.
Most Advisors are ex-smokers and can offer advice, support, resources and low cost nicotine patches, gum and lozenges.
Research with people who call the Quitline shows you are more likely to succeed in your quit attempt if you:
- Receive advice from a Quitline advisor several times.
- Use the nicotine patches or gum for eight weeks.
- Read The Quit Book and other printed materials.
Nicotine patches, gum and lozenges
If you are a heavy smoker; using patches, gum and lozenges for eight weeks can double your chances of quitting. You can order patches, gum and lozenges online. ( $10-20 for eight-weeks supply. the recommened programme length is eight weeks) or call the Quitline0800 778 778. Check our information sheets for more information about patches, gum and lozenges.
Get help from friends and family
Tell your family and friends you plan to quit, and explain how they can help and encourage you. If you have been keeping a smoker diary, look and check whether any of your family and friends actually makes you want to smoke. It may be best to simply avoid the subject with them.
